Bobby Braddock and Curly Putnam wrote “D-I-V-O-R-C-E” and it was the title cut on Tammy Wynette’s 1968 album. The song went to Number 1 on the Billboard Country charts and Number 63 on the Pop charts and earned Tammy Wynette a Grammy nomination for Best Country Vocal Performance, Female. Later in 1975, it charted again at Number 12 in the U.K. off Tammy Wynette’s Greatest Hits release. The song is used in the movies Five Easy Pieces (1970) and Brokeback Mountain (2005) and is featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Additional versions have been released by Hour Glass, Dottie West, Liz Anderson, Norma Jean, Dolly Parton, Peggy Little, Wanda Jackson, Rosanne Cash, Melinda Schneider and Beccy Cole and punk rock band, The Circle Jerks.
