Jim McBride and Alan Jackson co-wrote “Chattahoochee” and the song was recorded by Alan Jackson and released in May 1993. It was the third single from Alan Jackson’s A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘bout Love) album. The song went to Number 1 on the US Billboard Country charts and on the Canadian charts and it peaked at Number 46 on the Billboard Top 100 charts. The song was named the 1993 Single of the Year by the Country Music Awards (CMA) where it was also a nominee and runner-up as Song of the Year. The music video for the song also won the CMA award for Music Video of the Year.
